Jacksonville, Florida, was founded in 1822 and originally known as Cow Ford before being renamed in honor of Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States. Today, it has grown into the largest city by land area in the contiguous U.S., with more than 1,100 miles of shoreline, an expansive park system, and diverse communities stretching from the Beaches to the Westside.

Throughout its history, Jacksonville has overcome challenges—from the Great Fire of 1901 to hurricanes and rapid growth—while continuing to build strong neighborhoods and thriving local businesses. That resilience is part of what makes our city unique.
